Here are some resources for writers of children's books. If you would like to recommend a resource for illustrators or writers, we welcome your feedback.

Achuka Children's Books UK
An independent children's books site that offers reviews, interviews, a blog, and more about children's books.

Children's Books Ireland
Children's Books Ireland (CBI) is the national children's book organization of Ireland. Membership includes copies of Inis magazine and member rate for the CBI annual conference. ** This is one of the best resources for writers and illustrators of children's books. **

Children's Writers Brainstorming Lists
The Rock Canyon University Free School of Writing for Children in the U.S. has published a number of lists to help writers develop their stories, with lists of characters, characteristics, locations, activities, foods, and other stuff. A bit U.S.-centric but still a good jumping off point for brainstorming ideas. In particular, SCBWI member Patricia Forde recommends "470 Issues in Kids' Lives".

David Maybury's blog
David is very very active in the children's books community and now works for Scholastic Children's Books, so we highly recommend you subscribe to his blog or follow him on Twitter.

Glimmer Train Press Inc.
U.S.-based online magazine that holds quarterly competitions and publishes the winning short stories in their quarterly magazine.

IBBY Ireland
The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is a non-profit organization which represents an international network of people from all over the world who are committed to bringing books and children together.

Irish PEN
Irish PEN is the association for Irish writers and is affiliated with, the worldwide association for writers. Monthly meetings are usually held on the second Thursday of every month at 8.00 p.m. at The United Arts Club, at 3 Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2.

Inis Magazine
CBI's magazine is available online and updated regularly as well as in print format a couple of times a year. Subscribe to get regular updates. Included in CBI membership.

Irish Writers Union
The Irish Writers Union represents the interests of Irish writers, whether they were born in Ireland or elsewhere. Particularly helpful if you receive a contract from a publisher or agent and need help understanding all the fine print. There's actually quite a lot of information on topical current issues that are relevant for writers.

Poetry Ireland
Poetry Ireland runs the Writers in Schools (WIS) scheme. The scheme partly funds visits by writers and storytellers to primary and post primary schools throughout the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland (WIS NI).

Storytellers of Ireland
Storytellers of Ireland promotes the practice, study, and knowledge of oral storytelling in Ireland through the preservation and perpetuation of traditional storytelling and the development of storytelling as a contemporary art.

U.S. Agent Query
While this site only searches for agents in the United States, it could still be useful if you're looking for an agent there. It also has tips on querying and the publishing industry.

Word Pool
Word Pool is a children’s book website for parents, teachers, and writers (UK). While this site is no longer being updated regularly, there are still useful resources here including a list of author and illustrator website links.
