On October 20th, 2019, despite a twisted ankle, Tyas Widjati made the journey out to the INK Café at the dlr Lexicon in Dun Laoghaire on a sunny autumnal morning. Tyas brought with her a collection of beautiful and fun picture books that she published in Indonesia, She shared very interesting insights into the children’s book market in her country.

Tyas spent three weeks in Dublin on a residency program funded through an Indonesian writers project. She has been learning everything she can about Irish authors and illustrators and about Irish fairy tales and legends. She also visited a few historical sites as part of her research. Although she didn’t make it for the Children’s Books Ireland conference in September due to Visa delays, she made sure to meet up with many of her Irish literary and illustration heroes including Niamh Sharkey and PJ Lynch!

SCBWI Ireland socials provide a great opportunity to meet and chat with worldwide published authors. It was a pleasure to meet Tyas, and I wish her every success in her career.
